Why We Need Bug Spray Without The Chemicals

The Harsh Chemical Reality of Bug Spray

Repeat after me…..Cyfluthrin, Permethrin, Pyrethroids, Diethyl-Meta-Toluamide….  If you had trouble pronouncing these sinister sounding words you are not alone.  And I’m sure you’re now thinking, “forget the pronunciation, what in the world are they?”

The words listed above are chemicals contained in bug sprays, effective for sure against pesky insects, but also quite possibly harmful to your body as they seep into your pores after spraying arms, legs and possibly torso.

Let’s take a look at two of these chemicals, Permethrin and DEET.

Permethrin is an especially insidious component of most over the counter bug repellents.  It is considered a neurotoxin, meaning it can kill brain cells.  It’s also extremely toxic to bees, cats and all aquatic life.  And recently the honeybee population in the US and globally has entered a crisis stage, due to a loss of biodiversity, destruction of habitat and bee killing pesticides, such as we’ve described above.

Diethyl-Meta-Toluamide, commonly known as DEET, shows mixed results when it comes to safety.  The EPA released studies in 1998 and 2014, saying it “does not present a health concern to the general population, including children.”  But considering their long list of warnings and precautions about this chemical, it’s much better to err on the side of caution and avoid it if possible.  Children, especially, should never wear any insect repellent any longer than necessary.  The longer it’s on, the greater the chance of getting on hands and face thus possibly ingesting it.

The Bright Side of Organics

Now that we’ve discussed some of the gloomier aspects of most bug repellents, it’s time to take a look at the safe and effective products what we handcraft for adults, children, and mothers-to-be!

At Gifts of Nature Organics we have formulated a Bug Repellent and a Bug Bite and Burn Be Gone roll-on using nothing but natural and organic ingredients and 100% therapeutic grade essential oils. Our use of peppermint, citronella, lavender and others in a base of jojoba oil are as effective as any chemical laden product with absolutely no toxic side effects.

For a limited time only we are offering our Bug Spray and Bug Bite Roll On as a package for only $25.00 as opposed to the normal price of $32.00 if bought separately, a 28% saving.

Let me share with you my first hand account in dealing with these sure fire formulas.  Three years ago, in the summer of 2016, I was cleaning windows outside our garage when I was stung by a hornet right on the top of my thumb.  I hadn’t seen a nest of them right below the window I was cleaning.  I immediately felt the pain and burn of the sting.  My wife heard my yelling and she grabbed one of our Bug Bite and Burn Be Gone roll-ons and applied it to my thumb.  Inside of a minute the pain disappeared!  I was literally stunned. --- Dave R.
